Civil war in Syria: Syrian rebels have captured the capital Damascus. With this the 50 year old rule of the Assad family has ended. Bashar al-Assad ruled as president for 24 years. The head of Syria’s largest rebel group has come forward for the first time since the fall of Assad and called it a victory for the Islamic nation.
On Sunday, when rebels led by Syria’s most powerful rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) entered the capital, the Syrian president fled the country. According to Russian government news agencies, Syria’s deposed President Bashar al-Assad and his family are in Moscow and have been granted asylum.
Syrian Prime Minister agreed to peaceful transfer of power
Meanwhile, Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali agreed to cooperate with the rebels and said he would ensure a peaceful transfer of power. Wahim HTS chief Abu Mohammed al-Julani has ordered his soldiers to stay away from public properties.
All Indian citizens safe in Syria
All Indian citizens are safe in Syria. Government sources gave this information on Sunday. Government sources gave this information a few hours after Islamic rebels ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from power. Sources said the Indian Embassy in Damascus is still functioning. 90 Indian citizens are in Syria
According to official figures, there are about 90 Indian citizens in Syria, including 14 who are working in various UN organizations. A source said, “Our embassy continues to function in Damascus, Syria. The embassy is in touch with all Indian nationals and they are safe.”
